May Revision Funds 8 New Capital Outlay Projects, Additional Continuing Projects

We have confirmed that the Governor’s May Revision includes funding for additional community college capital outlay projects, bringing total proposed funding for the program to $581 million in FY 21-22. In his January budget, the Governor proposed to fund preliminary plans and working drawings for just 1 new capital outlay project in FY 21-22. The May Revision proposes to fund preliminary plans and working drawings for 8 additional new community college projects. These projects were originally to be considered in FY 22-23, but they are now proposed for FY 21-22 to accelerate the timeline and stimulate the economy. The funding source is both Proposition 51 and remaining dollars from previously authorized bonds.

The new projects include:

• Compton Community College District, Compton College: Visual and Performing Arts Replacement - $798,000
• Desert Community College District, College of the Desert: Science Building Renovation - $586,000
• Los Angeles Community College District, Los Angeles Mission College: Plant Facilities Warehouse and Shop Replacement (Preliminary Plans only) - $304,000
• North Orange Community College District, Anaheim Campus: Tower First Floor Life/Safety Renovation - $716,000
• Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District, Shasta College: Building 800 Renovation - $482,000
• Sierra Joint Community College District, Sierra College: Applied Technology Center Modernization - $1,380,000
• Ventura Community College District, Moorpark College: Administration Building Reconstruction - $411,000
• West Valley-Mission Community College District, West Valley College: Theater Renovation/Expansion - $823,000

The May Revision also includes funding for 32 continuing projects, up from 17 in the January budget proposal.

Legislative budget subcommittees are meeting this week to close out their work on reviewing the Governor’s budget proposals, working toward passing the final negotiated budget by June 15.
