Proposition 13 Update – Too Soon to Tell

Thank you to all of our members for your support of Proposition 13, the 2020 state school bond. The message today is that it is too soon to call the election.
As of this morning, approximately 5 million votes have been counted, with 44.1% supporting Proposition 13. We need 50% plus one vote to pass the bond. We estimate there could be about 6 million votes still left to count, including absentee/vote by mail and provisional ballots. With the presidential primary, we expect high turnout, which is not yet reflected in the votes that have been counted.
We will know more by Friday, when counties will have made additional major reports to the Secretary of State. It could take weeks to count all of the ballots. This situation is similar to Proposition 55 (2004), when initial counts showed that bond below the threshold to win but ultimately it passed.
We remain optimistic that Proposition 13 can pass, and it is too early to determine otherwise.

AB 3333 (O’Donnell) – Capital Outlay Process
Assembly Member O’Donnell introduced AB 3333, which states the intent of the Legislature to establish a “transparent and coordinated process” for the allocation of community college capital outlay bond funds. CCFC will work with Assembly Member O’Donnell and his staff to evaluate options for establishing a process with clear expectations, to allow community colleges to better plan their project proposals.
